A mystery object that was recently donated to the St. Lawrence Thrift Store – operated by the Anglican Church in Portugal Cove-St. Philips – might finally be identified.
Thrift store staff were left scratching their heads as to what the object was, and its purpose, and posted a video of the mystery item to Facebook.
The rounded, football-shaped gadget folds onto itself, and unfolds into a type of shovel or spoon that fits easily in the hand.
To Reverend Bob Earle’s surprise, the video has gone viral, garnering well over a million views.
“When the right person sees it, and tells you what it is, you’ll go ‘okay, that’s what it is, that makes sense.'” But he admits they’ve never had an item that generated that much interest.
Just minutes after Reverend Earle’s appearance on Your VOCM Mornings this morning, some intrepid VOCM listeners identified it as an ice scoop, usually used in a bar.
