The moon is going to eat up most of the sun this weekend and the Johnson GEO Centre in St. John’s is hosting a watch party for it
Science educator Rod Taylor says the GEO Centre doesn’t normally open until April 2nd, but they will open early tomorrow for the galactical treat.
Taylor says it may not be as spectacular as the total eclipse last summer, in which over 98 per cent of the sun in the St. John’s area was blotted out by the moon.

He says this time around about 82 per cent of the sun will be covered by the moon at the maximum point at 7:52 a.m.
“That’s when we will be able to see what they call the moon’s horns,” says Taylor. “But don’t look at it without the proper eyewear because you’re still looking at the sun.”
Taylor says there will be plenty of activities at the Geo Centre tomorrow with hot chocolate on the menu.
The GEO Centre will be open from 6:30 a.m. until noon for the eclipse which begins at 6:57 a.m.
Much will depend on the weather for viewing, however, with so far partly cloudy skies in the forecast.
