The Public Utilities Board says it accepts the information provided from Newfoundland Power after complaints from customers started flooding in about higher-than-expected power bills in February. However, the board is seeking more information from the utility regarding a review of its billing practices.
The board says the information provided by Newfoundland Power was “helpful in understanding the reasons” for bill volatility in February, and accepts that colder weather and windspeeds are normal contributors to higher bills.
The PUB notes that the company has committed to exploring ways to limit changes in billing periods in the winter, and it supports the utility’s initiative to review its billing practices. The board is now asking that Newfoundland Power provide it with the results of that review, including an explanation of current practices and an analysis of how billing-day variances are distributed.
The board has asked the utility to provide that information by April 29.
