The Coalition of Persons with Disabilities is among a group of community-based organizations seeking greater core funding from the province—and is calling for changes to the way in which core funding is determined and distributed.
Executive Director Nancy Reid says organizations like COD-NL require core funding for their basic essential costs—like rent, salaries, and utilities—to keep them running.
Reid says many organizations don’t have enough funds for their core operations, but the funds are distributed at the appropriate minister’s discretion.
Which is problematic according to Reid, because it could be seen as biased. “There is no system, no application-based program, by which organizations like the coalition can use to make application to that core funding source.”
