The NDP is calling on the province to reinstate waterbomber service in part of Labrador ahead of tomorrow’s budget.
Last summer two major wildfires threatened two Labrador communities, Churchill Falls and Labrador City.
Last fall, the announced its intention to establish an Atlantic Wildfire Centre in Gander, with one waterbomber assigned to Labrador, and the others based in Central Newfoundland.
NDP MHA Jordan Brown says the province has been operating without one of its waterbombers since 2018, and government has been “(dragging) its feet” on the repairs.
He says they need to have the second waterbomber back and it should be based in Wabush.
Browne says government has refused to do that, which puts the region at risk.
