Three local landmarks are in the running for the National Trust’s Next Great Save.
Members of the public can vote online for their favourite heritage project, with a $65,000 grand prize up for grabs.
Among the local projects in the running are the Battle Harbour Marconi Towers, the Dove Brook Church in Sandwich Bay, Labrador, and St. Mark’s Heritage Church in Bareneed.
Lynnette Ogden of the Port de Grave Heritage Society says the church, built in 1926, is being transformed into a Marine Technology Centre, preserving local marine artifacts and honouring the church’s long history.
She says they’ve partnered with the Canadian Coast Guard Alumni, who have donated artifacts from decommissioned lighthouses from across the province. “So we have quite a collection…of foghorns, various types of lights, all the stuff that was used in the old lighthouses.”
