The Registered Nurses’ Union is calling out NL Health Services for what it deems “mixed messages” and a lack of consultation on the proposed move of adult gynecology services to the Janeway.
The union met with NLHS officials, including CEO Pat Parfrey, on Wednesday, but it left the RNU with “more questions than answers” and “deeper concerns” about what it says is a lack of transparency and inconsistent messaging.
The RNU says Parfrey assured them that no plan had been finalized, and that information being shared was “rumour.” He later clarified that a draft plan had been developed and revised based on input received from one discipline with whom it was shared.
Nurses’ union president Yvette Coffey says if the plan was just a draft, why wasn’t it shared with all disciplines?

Premier Andrew Furey, meanwhile, said he hadn’t seen a 31-page document being circulated by pediatricians about the proposal.
He urges all parties to take “a collective breath.”
“This is an analytical process of potential space, as I understand it, which is the job of the CEO,” said Furey. “That’s something that is happening in concert with consultations, and no formal decision has yet been taken.”
Furey added he has “total faith” in Parfrey to conduct those consultations, and then bring a recommendation or joint decision forward.
