While most of us might grab a quick photo of a passing iceberg, one dedicated enthusiast from central Newfoundland has made tracking these frozen giants her passion.
As the administrator of “Newfoundland and Labrador Iceberg Reports,” Diane Davis has created a community where thousands share sightings of the ancient Arctic visitors.
Davis has become the province’s unofficial “Iceberg Ambassador” because of her knowledge of berg patterns and viewing locations.
Davis says one thing to keep in mind is that places like Twillingate, an iceberg hotspot, should be treated as a region because the ice could be visible from anywhere.
“I advise people not to chase an iceberg that’s more than two days old,” says Davis. “So far, the bergs have been too far out, too far for even the boat tours that are ready to run.”
