An 18-hole disc golf course in the Airport Heights area of St. John’s has become the latest target of vandals.
In posts on social media and local community pages, Avalon Disc Golfers, on behalf of Disc Golf Newfoundland and Labrador, say they’ve had to file a police report given “a series of vandalism and damage” to the course at the end of McNiven Place.
They note the course was funded through grants, as well as the city, to bring a free and accessible opportunity for recreation to the already existing complex in Airport Heights.
They also acknowledge it’s a shared space, with the expectation that each user group will respect the other’s area and infrastructure, “leaving trees and fairways as is.”
But there’s also been recent damage to the group’s tee pads and signage, with the city and RNC notified in an effort to deter a repeat.
The disc golfers say they’re not looking to “expose those who are responsible for the damage, but are seeking co-operation” from area residents and visitors.
The association also operates a nine-hole course on Confederation Hill.
