The capital city is warning of a malware incident involving it’s Curb It St. John’s website.
The city was first alerted to the incident on Wednesday.
The website was rendered unavailable to users while the situation was being investigated, with the city noting that the malware was quickly identified and removed.
Following “additional security measures” being put in place the website was restored once again.
The city says “out of an abundance of caution for cybersecurity” they will not be disclosing how the malware was installed, or what new security measures have been implemented.
They do not believe there have been any adverse incidents or data breaches as a result of the situation, however they are encouraging people to be vigilant when browsing websites.
Examples of suspicious activity to watch out for include unexpected pop-up windows, strange requests – such as a website asking for personal information or log in credentials in an unusual manner, and being redirected to a different website without clicking a link.
