A Whitbourne woman is the lucky winner of the VOCM Cares 50-50 cash draw this morning.
Although Wanda Boland insists she isn’t — or at least wasn’t the luckiest person in the world — until today.
Boland’s ticket, drawn this morning on Your VOCM Mornings show, was worth a cool $82,000, half of the total $164,000 jackpot.
Contacted by VOCM News shortly after the announcement, Boland said she initially misheard the amount she’d won.
“I’m in shock. I still thought it was $2,000, the booby prize, and then they said the winner of the $82,000. When I heard it again, the next time, I said oh my God!”
Boland’s husband Perry insists she lucked out long before the draw.
“I thought she was the luckiest woman in the world when she got me, but now she’s definitely the luckiest woman.”
Both are retired — Wanda from her job as a 911 operator, and Perry who worked with heavy equipment.
They’ll use the money to continue landscaping on their Whitbourne property, and spoil their six kids and nine grandchildren.
The other half of the jackpot will go toward VOCM Cares program funding in support of organizations such as the 50 Plus and Boys and Girls Clubs, with recent assistance provided for local search and rescue resources.
