The Canadian Federation of Teachers says the province isn’t doing enough to keep teachers in the workplace.

Heidi Yetman, the president of the Canadian Teachers’ Federation, says nearly one in five teachers aren’t making it past the five-year mark because of conditions inside the classroom.

Yetman says teachers across the country are grappling with larger classes, more violence, and a lack of resources in the classroom.

“If we don’t have people with experience inside the classrooms to begin with; we’re going to have a hard time recruiting.”
