The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary is warning the public of an online TikTok challenge involving the use of toy guns.
The “Senior Assassin” challenge involves graduating high school students seeking each other out with nerf guns and water guns, with the goal of eliminating each other until there is one player left standing.
The RNC says the challenge is not limited to school property, and can take place any time of day.
The challenge raises concerns because some toy guns can look realistic, and members of the public may not be aware of the challenge and become alarmed, leading to calls to police that trigger a large response.
Police are asking parents to speak with their children about the potential risks and consequences of having an imitation firearm in their possession.
They say all calls about firearms, real or perceived, involve a heightened response, are investigated, and could lead to charges.
They are encouraging students participating in the challenge to “put away the guns and use water balloons instead.”
