The evacuation order and state of emergency for residents of Small Point-Adam’s Cove-Blackhead-Broad Cove and Western Bay has been lifted. All residents are permitted to return to their properties via established checkpoints.
The provincial government is asking people to exercise caution when returning, and to follow guidance provided by local emergency responders.
Route 70 in Adam’s Cove in Conception Bay North is now open to the public. The highway was shut down Wednesday afternoon because of the wildfire, with restricted access allowed yesterday. Police, fire and Newfoundland Power crews remain in the area, so there may be higher volumes of traffic than usual.
Newfoundland Power has begun restoring electricity.
The Salvation Army and Canadian Red Cross have established the Salem Community Hall in Small Point as the main contact point for those who have been evacuated.

Power is in the process of being restored to the community of Adam’s Cove following this week’s devastating fires.
The wildfire, which came on suddenly Wednesday afternoon, was brought under control yesterday by fire crews after a tense 24-hours.
Assessments of the damage are continuing. At least 20 structures have been damaged.
The evacuation order remains in place.
