Two St. John’s men have been arrested and charged after police say they tried to steal a table saw from Canadian Tire in Carbonear.
Around 2 p.m. on Tuesday, the RCMP received a report that a $1,000 Dewalt table saw had been stolen.
Two men were confronted outside the store by employees. They fled the area in a vehicle, but the saw was left behind.
The vehicle, which was unregistered, was later stopped along Veteran’s Memorial near North River, and two men—43-year-old Dylan Ryan and 46-year-old Michale Squires—were arrested.
Both Squires and Ryan were wanted by the RNC for other offences at the time.
A search of the vehicle turned up property allegedly stolen from another business.
Both accused appeared in court on Tuesday on charges of theft under $5,000.
Ryan remains in custody and will appear in court again on Monday. Squires was released on conditions and will appear in court again on May 21.
