An online fundraiser has been launched for a little girl from the Calgary area who turned 4 yesterday. While she is from out west, there is plenty of Newfoundland blood running through her veins. Amelia Baker’s father, Andrew, is from this province.
Mom Samantha says Amelia was born with brain damage, and has been diagnosed with cerebral palsy and epilepsy.
The left side of her body is most affected as Amelia has limited motor skills and difficulty doing things most kids take for granted.
Samantha says their goal is to raise $70,000 to help cover the cost of the various means of therapy she undergoes including speech.
She notes that before you walk, you have to have balance and coordination and before you have coordination, you have to have all the little things.
“She is able to take one or two steps on her own but just the desire to do these things kicks in, so the more she does them, the more she wants to,” says Samantha.
Anyone wishing to contribute can go to the cerebral palsy website.
Samantha just called @VOCMOpenline to share her daughter Amelia's story.
