RCMP have laid fraud and theft charges against the former office manager and accountant for Brigus-based Independent Fish Harvesters Ltd.

Police were contacted by the company about possible internal fraud in April of 2023.

RCMP say the Forensic Accounting Management Group was called in to conduct a forensic financial audit, which discovered internal fraud in excess of $125,000.

Fifty-three-year-old Craig Williams, who is the former mayor of Conception Harbour, was arrested on March 12th and charged with one count each of fraud over $5,000, and theft over $5,000.

Williams is scheduled to return to court in Harbour Grace on July 2nd.
