The Seniors’ Advocate has launched a new campaign aimed at curbing ageism and highlighting the role of seniors in this province.
Elementary school students are being invited to draw pictures highlighting the role of seniors in the community, with prizes available.
Advocate Susan Walsh spoke with students at Goulds Elementary about the importance of seniors in the community.
She says with an aging population, more awareness campaigns will be needed in the years to come.
The province has one of the largest seniors populations per capita in the country according to Walsh. “We definitely have the oldest population of seniors and we know that we have a group right now between 50 to 70 that’s going to age into older years, larger than anywhere else per capita in the country.”
