NAPE is echoing the concerns of others about increased incidence of violence in the health care system.
Earlier this month a patient trashed a triage unit at the Health Sciences after becoming violent, sending equipment and furniture flying and forcing staff and patients to flee.
Last week, a woman was charged after allegedly assaulting a paramedic who had been called to help her.
NAPE Secretary treasurer Trevor King says the union is seeing more violent incidents in the workplace. He says worker safety is paramount.
The union discusses incidents with the employer each time one occurs and while the employer is responding, there is room for improvement.
“We just wish that some of it was a bit swifter, for lack of a better word,” said King.
