Two people were arrested after RCMP were called about two people apparently passed out in a vehicle in Carbonear Friday night.
When police arrived they found two people inside a vehicle on Lemarchant Street. A Carbonear man, who was in the driver’s seat, was unresponsive, but the vehicle was still running and in gear.
A police officer put the vehicle in park and turned the vehicle off, which is when the 36-year-old man started to come around. He was arrested and taken to hospital where blood samples were taken for suspected drug impaired driving. Police are awaiting the results of lab testing to determine whether drug impaired driving charges should be laid.
In the meantime, the passenger, a 33-year-old woman from Bell Island, was found in breach of conditions of a release order and was arrested.
Illicit prescription pills, drug paraphernalia and other items were seized from the vehicle along with a number of weapons. The vehicle was also seized and impounded.
The investigation continues.
