Traffic jams were reported in Twillingate this weekend as locals and visitors alike flocked to the community to view a massive iceberg off Ragged Point.
Diane Davis, the administrator of the Newfoundland and Labrador Iceberg Reports facebook page says icebergs are attracting people to communities all along the northeast coast, including Bonavista and Twillingate, but she warns, it’s important to remember to be courteous and not impede traffic.
There were reports of people parking on the causeway leading into Twillingate in recent days, impeding traffic.
She understands that people are excited and are parking on the 80 km/h thoroughfare, but she advises drivers to “park at the end of the causeway, get off the road.”
She says in order to see the massive iceberg everyone is talking about, turn left into Bayview instead of driving straight along the highway “and take a coastal route up to Twillingate, that’s where the big icebergs are, and have been for three weeks.”
