A Newfoundlander visiting home from Nebraska found herself engaged in an unusual wildlife rescue on the weekend.
Evelyn Jones was back home visiting her sister in Baie Verte when they noticed a newborn moose calf struggling in a brook that backs onto her sister’s property.
It turns out that the creature had become separated from its mother when it got frightened by a dog.
Jones decided to get involved because the calf was heading toward some falls.
“Had he kept going down another 15 feet or so…he would have gone over the falls. So I told Sharon ‘we got to get him out!'” She says the calf made it to some rock, but then got stuck there, “so we just went over and pulled him over.”
She says with a little coaxing, the calf was reunited with its mother.
