For the last 40 years it was known as the Canada-Newfoundland and Labrador Offshore Petroleum Board. Now the province’s offshore regulator has a new name.
The enacting legislation came into effect yesterday, changing the C-NLOPB to the Canada-Newfoundland and Labrador Offshore Regulator.
Not only is it a new name, but Chair and former Premier Roger Grimes says it also comes with a new mandate “part of which is if there are energy projects that are offshore other than traditional oil and gas, wind for example, then we’ll be designated as the regulator for that into the future.”
