The Town of Harbour Grace is installing security cameras around town in light of two notable incidents of wanton vandalism.
The bronze statue of Amelia Earhart, removed from the Spirit of Harbour Grace Park back in April, remains missing.
In recent days, someone broke into the local soccer hut and trashed the place according to Mayor Don Coombs.
He says someone emptied the fire extinguishers in there, and when they were done, beat up all the Gyproc with the cannisters, even smashing the big screen TV they had. He says the town secured the building while assessing the damage, and someone got in the next night and destroyed the toilet bowls and took the paint used for the lines on the field and “destroyed that altogether.”
The town’s soccer program starts in a few weeks, and parents and players are left without access to the soccer hut. Coombs says some parents have offered to help clean up the damage.
