As Newfoundland and Labrador continues to make a push towards wind to hydrogen projects, a company believes a salt dome on the west coast will be instrumental to the industry.
Triple Point Resources owns the Fischells Salt Dome, located about 30 km south of Stephenville beneath the TCH.
CEO Julie Lemieux, who is in St. John’s for the Energy NL conference, describes the dome as “massive,” noting it’s about 5 km long and 2 km deep.
She says the project is Canada’s answer to the question of how renewable resources can be turned into “secure bankable energy for decades to come.”
Specifically, Lemieux says the facility is perfect for energy storage, noting that similar projects have been happening for decades in the United States and Europe.
She says it is the only one on the eastern seaboard and all the wind the province has, combined with the storage capacity on the west coast is the “best combination to be a super power and answer the call on clean energy.”
