The first Canadian in space and former Liberal cabinet minister has passed away.
Marc Garneau passed away yesterday after a brief illness.
He made history in 1984 as the first Canadian to fly to space and would make two more trips in 1996 and 2000.
Garneau entered federal politics in 2008 and served as a Montreal-area MP until his retirement in 2023.
During his time in Ottawa, he served in cabinet as minister of transportation and minister responsible for foreign affairs.
Marc Garneau was 76.
