Pattern Energy, the company behind the construction of a 300-megwatt wind energy facility in Argentia, is looking at renewable energy opportunities, even if Europe is not quite ready for the shift to hydrogen power.
The managing director of Pattern Energy, Frank Davis, says the Argentia area is well-positioned to reap the benefits of renewable energy, despite the fact that the global market is not yet ready to sign long-term uptake contracts.
That means they’re looking at other economic opportunities while the global industry develops.
“We’re looking at analyzing this project opportunity for ways to commercialize faster,” and “to not necessarily depend on decisions being made in Europe.” He says they’re working on pacing the project to “decisions we can make here at home.”
He says rollbacks in green energy policies in the U.S. have shaken up the industry.
“Certainly the U.S. is a leading voice, the depth and scale of that market is going to have impact globally that we need to be conscious of here for sure.”
