Environment Canada says Newfoundlanders and Labradorians can expect higher-than-usual temperatures this summer.
The weather service says the Avalon Peninsula is in for a dryer than normal summer, while parts of northern Labrador could be in for more precipitation than usual.

Research scientist Bill Merryfield says ocean temperatures are playing a big role their predictions.
“General warming of the climate, plus the generally warmer than usual North Atlantic temperatures are two major factors in the high above high forecast probabilities for above normal temperatures in Newfoundland along with much of the rest of Eastern Canada,” he tells reporters.
While less rain and drier conditions are expected for parts of the island, Environment Canada’s report also predicted an average wildfire season throughout both the island and the Big Land.
