A once-controversial heritage property on the outskirts of downtown may finally have a taker.
It was eight years ago this month that the former Richmond Cottage, one of the oldest structures in the city, was demolished by the wrecking ball.
That followed failed efforts to find a buyer willing to restore the historic home, built in 1848, at the bottom of Shaw Street.

It also led to proactive changes to heritage rules to avoid losing such historic sites.
A cul-de-sac has since gone in on part of the land, but nothing came of the property on which the house once stood — until now.
Councillor Tom Davis says the proposal is for three separate homes near the corner and leading into McLea Place.
He says the two properties are currently vacant and the proposal calls for the subdivision of the two properties into three lots for single, detached homes.
Council’s committee of the whole voted to send the plan to a regular meeting for approval.
