A man who was instrumental in the construction of the Swilers Rugby Complex in St. John’s has passed away.
Paddy O’Callahan, who built up a solid catering business servicing the offshore oil industry off Newfoundland, was a member of the Order of Newfoundland and Labrador.
Sean Gillespie, a rugby player, says O’Callahan was always a big financial supporter of rugby. He, Noel Browne and Pat Parfrey were the major drivers of the rugby complex.
He says that facility is helping to turn out national-class rugby players.
O’Callahan, who was laid to rest in his native Ireland, was a big supporter of many causes, including The Gathering Place in St. John’s.
