NL Health Services is raising the alarm about smoking in and around health care facilities after a fire at one of its sites.
In a memo sent out to all staff on Monday, NLHS says a discarded butt is believed to have started a fire at one of their facilities. No injuries or damage was reported, but the memo warns of the potential consequences of a fire on or near a health care facility “are severe and could pose risks for patients, staff, infrastructure and public safety.”
Staff are being reminded about the health authority’s smoke-free policy and it is asking staff to address any breaches “respectfully” by reporting it to HR for follow-up.
