Conditions are looking positive today as crews battle a wildfire near Churchill Falls.
The blaze was first reported Sunday afternoon near the ski hill.
Provincial wildfire program director Craig Coady says crews are dealing with steep terrain, but aside from locating a few hotspots things are “looking pretty good.”
He says the risk to Churchill Falls and surrounding infrastructure is decrease and they are confident they will be able to hold the fire today. He notes that there is some precipitation in the forecast for tomorrow which will help as well.
While the fire situation near Churchill Falls is promising, Coady cautions that the province’s fire weather index will be “high” or “extreme” in many party of the province today and tomorrow.
He is asking people to be extra cautious over the next few days and to check the index for their area, and to check with municipalities to see if they have any restrictions in place.
