The town of Grand Falls-Windsor says they are providing mutual aid assistance to those affected by the ongoing wild fires near Badger, and are working with provincial fire emergency services to coordinate efforts.
As part of their efforts the Joe Byrne Memorial Stadium is being used as a reception centre, with people on hand to help evacuees register with the Red Cross. Jones Street is closed until further notice to allow easy access to the stadium.
As well, Centennial Park is available for Badger residents to store large items such as skidoos and quads.
The town is also stressing that pets are welcome, but people are encouraged to bring a crate or kennel.
They town says there is no threat to their community at the moment, but are encouraging residents to be prepared should conditions change.
