A Hopedale man charged with first-degree murder and attempted murder now has a lawyer to deal with those and previous charges he was facing.
Twenty-seven-year-old Michael Tuglavina was arrested in the Labrador town one month ago after a man was found dead in a home, and another suffered serious injuries.
The accused has been in custody since the incident on Friday, May 16, now held at the Labrador Correctional Centre in Happy Valley-Goose Bay.
Few details have been released about the tragic events other than the fact that everyone involved knew each other.
The defence was waiting to confirm the birth dates of witnesses to avoid conflicts down the road.
The case was called again this week in Wabush provincial court, with Legal Aid’s Jonathan Regan advising he’s now the solicitor of record for Tuglavina.
He told Judge Wynne Anne Trahey he will represent the accused on the murder case, as well as pre-existing charges, including breaches of court orders, resisting arrest, uttering threats, assault, and assault causing bodily harm.
Regan said he’s waiting on disclosure from the Crown, as well as files related to the earlier charges, which will help inform an application for bail in Supreme Court.
For now, the case is scheduled back in provincial court for a progress update on August 18.
