The CEO of NL Hydro says Newfoundland and Labrador has the ability to become the country’s new energy frontier if it is able to get past a so-called “culture of no.”
Jennifer Williams says rigour and speed are not incompatible and Canada as a whole needs to move toward a more shovel-ready mindset.
Williams told NL Hydro’s AGM that she’s pleased with recent signals from Prime Minister Mark Carney indicating a greater emphasis on getting projects moving, but she and Electricity Canada want to see action.
She says a recent Electricity Canada report outlines what needs to be done “to move beyond this culture of no,” and she’s advocating that intent is turned to action and that Newfoundland and Labrador is at the “front of that line” for federal support, “whatever that will look like.”
