A resident in the neighbourhood surrounding Bannerman Park is among those questioning the decision to locate a lit St. John’s sign, similar to that in other cities, in the park.
While some people worry about vandalism, some question the cost, and others question why it’s not in an area more popular with tourists; Ray Penton questions how a large, lighted sign will fit in with Bannerman Park’s natural surroundings.
“I think it disrupts and disrespects the serenity, contemplative and reflective nature of the park’s design and intentions.” He told Your VOCM Mornings that it “contradicts the essence and natural beauty of that park.”
