The Nunatsiavut Government is calling for an immediate air freight subsidy as the north coast of Labrador faces empty store shelves due to ferry delays.
First Minister Melva Williams says some communities have yet to receive a single delivery this year, and people and businesses are running out of essential items.
Torngat Mountains MHA Lela Evans is echoing those concerns. She says some residents are flying in toilet paper themselves, and many passengers who had booked tickets are forced to fly, costing them thousands of dollars.
Coastal marine services were scheduled to begin on June 19th, but ice conditions in the Hopedale, Natuashish and Nain areas have forced a delay.
Nunatsiavut Marine is preparing to sail, bound for the coast of Labrador, starting tomorrow.
