There was a celebration in the Goulds today for a well-known farmer and patriarch of a long-established local family.
Leonard Ruby turned 100 today, and the occasion was celebrated with a tractor parade through the Goulds this morning.
Ward councilor Carl Ridgely says Ruby was still out in the fields just a few short years ago.
“He was 96 years old” the last time he was out in the fields Ridgely told VOCM Open Line with Paddy Daly. The family welcomed well-wishers to their home.
Leonard Ruby was moved by the gesture. His son says the farmers from neighbouring homes were involved in the parade.
“The local farmers, they gathered for dad. All around here, he grew up here, 100 years, all this area.”
