St. John’s had the lowest inflation rate last month of any city in Canada surveyed by Statistics Canada.
Nationally, the rate remained steady at 1.7 per cent in May. In Newfoundland and Labrador, the cost of living rose 0.5 per cent in May over April, when it was 0.4. In St. John’s, the cost of living increased 0.2 per cent in May, the same as in April.
Only two other cities surveyed saw inflation increase by less than one per cent last month – Charlottetown and Thunder Bay.
