The town of Torbay is getting a new wharf in Tapper’s Cove.
Fisheries Minister Joanne Thompson was in the community this morning to announce the $4.1-million project.
The existing structure will be completely removed and replaced with a new timber wharf and concrete spray wall, which government says will be designed to withstand extreme weather events.
Torbay Mayor Craig Scott says the former wharf was in “really bad condition” and the Harbour Authority has been working for the better part of a decade to get the upgrades done.
Scott says the work has already started.
He says the construction will be an inconvenience for those that use the wharf, but he thinks everyone will be impressed with the end result.
