NLHS is expected to investigate possible fraud allegations after an Auditor General’s report found red flags in bills submitted by agency nurses.
The report found in one instance, over $90,000 was charged to NLHS for 81 weeks of electric vehicle rentals for a travel nurse who wasn’t in the province.
In total, over $327-thousand was paid out for electric vehicle rentals in which a nurse “did not appear” to have the vehicle.
Krista Lynn Howell ordered NLHS to “expedite” the audit and look for fraud to report to the police.
“The directive that will come from the department is to ensure that they continue to prioritize this work to absolutely address any concerns or questions of fraudulent activity or misappropriation of funds,” she told reporters.
“So that will be a top priority as well as implementing their internal audit functions.”
