The annual Mundy Pond Regatta goes ahead today.
The event, which was resurrected a few years ago to great neighborhood enthusiasm, will include games of chance, punt races and entertainment – not to mention the actual regatta itself.
The regatta was born in 1930 as the brainchild of Father Harold A. Summers and ran until 1949. Jim Colbert of Blackmarsh Road rowed in that final year and he joined the regatta in 2018 where he was honoured by organizers. He passed away in 2020.
The regatta, resurrected in 2017, is going strong and gaining greater attention every year.
Ward councillor Greg Noseworthy says this year they have about 12 teams competing.
“We’ve got men’s and women’s races,” says Noseworthy, “and of course the championship race.”
The Men’s Championship race is scheduled for 4:00 p.m., followed by the Women’s Championship at 4:30 p.m.
The event gets underway at 11:00 and runs through to 5:00 p.m.
