A brief thunder and lightning storm on the Avalon Peninsula early last night did some damage.

People in several communities in Trinity Bay are without electricity after the infrastructure was struck by lightning.

Job’s Cove, Old Perlican, Bay de Verde, Grates Cove, Ochre Pit Cove and Red Head Cove have been without power since about 8:00 last night and will remain so until around suppertime today says the utility.

Due to the remote location of the damage, specialized equipment is required to access the site and make required repairs, which will include pole replacement.

Approximately 1000 customers had power restored this morning and restoration for remaining customers will take place once the repairs are complete, expected by approximately 5:00 p.m. today, barring any unforeseen circumstances.
