The MHA for Grand Falls-Windsor-Buchans is sounding the alarm about the future of cancer care in the region after Dr. Wendy House tendered her resignation from the local cancer clinic.
Chris Tibbs says House submitted her resignation on June 1st. He read part of the letter on VOCM Open Line with Paddy Daly.
He says the local cancer clinic sees over 300 patients a month, but he fears its days are numbered if appropriate action isn’t taken.
“What happens now?” Tibbs wants to know, “because this clinic is on its last legs, just as our emergency room and just as our hospital is.”
NL Health Services says the centre remains appropriately staffed, and continues to provide appropriate and timely care for patients. NLHS says it maintains open communication with physicians and staff within the organization, offering several avenues of outreach to support matters they wish to have addressed.
