A wanted man in Port aux Basques has been arrested by the RCMP following a lengthy standoff.
An arrest warrant for 44-year-old Leon William Francis was issued on June 18th.
He was wanted on three counts of criminal harassment, two counts of uttering threats, harassing communications, and two counts of failing to comply with a release order.
Around 2 p.m. yesterday police went to a home on Savoury’s Lane after learning that Francis was inside.
They say the man refused to exit the home and barricaded himself inside.
RCMP officers from multiple units were on the scene while negotiations were carried out. Their Emergency Response Team and the RNC’s Tactics and Rescue unit were called in, but the incident was resolved before their arrival.
Francis left the home and presented himself to police just after 5:30 p.m. without further incident.
He was held to appear in court today.
