The provincial government has announced that despite plans to move the Astron to the Bell Island run, it will be remaining with Fogo Island for the time being.

Frustrated ferry users on Fogo Island blocked the vessel from leaving earlier today upon hearing what government was considering.

However, a wrench was thrown in government’s plans when the Veteran, which was going to be kept on the Fogo Island run, had to be taken out of commission due to mechanical issues.

Government says crews are looking at that situation, but for now the Astron will stay put and Bell Island will continue to be serviced by the Flanders.
