A 31-year-old man is facing serious drug and driving charges after he was pulled over Saturday in the Codroy Valley on the island’s west coast.
The traffic stop occurred shortly before 10 p.m. on Main Road in Searston.
RCMP say they discovered the man’s driver’s licence had been suspended and he was in possession of contraband cigarettes.
A further search of the vehicle, which was seized and impounded, turned up a quantity of cocaine “consistent with possession for the purpose of trafficking.”
The suspect, whose name was not divulged, was released from custody to appear in court on charges including possession for the purpose of trafficking cocaine contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, driving while suspended contrary to the Highway Traffic Act, and possession of unstamped tobacco contrary to the Excise Act.
