A Marystown man fleeing from police ended up getting caught when the car he was driving ran out of gas in the capital city region.
A co-operative effort by RCMP and RNC led to the arrest of the 29-year-old man Wednesday afternoon.
RCMP Traffic Services noticed the car speeding on the Trans-Canada eastbound near Soldier’s Pond at speeds of up to 160 km/h. The car would not pull over for police and sped towards St. John’s.
RCMP alerted the RNC about the vehicle which had been the subject of numerous erratic driving complaints from people in Marystown, Clarenville, Whitbourne and Holyrood.
But the driver’s luck—and gas—ran out on the eastbound exit ramp on Pitts Memorial in Mount Pearl where he was taken into custody by RNC.
The driver is now facing charges of flight from police, and dangerous driving. He’s also been ticketed for speeding, his licence was suspended and the car was impounded.
