A date has been set for the long-awaited opening of the new Mews Centre in St. John’s.
Councilor Greg Noseworthy announced via social media this morning that the facility will be opening to the public on September 15.
The road to getting the facility open has been riddled with delays.
It was originally supposed to open in the fall of 2023, then that deadline was pushed back to earlier this year.
However, the goal post was once again moved when an issue was discovered with the building’s heating and cooling equipment.
The city finally took ownership of the building in May, but decided to open it in September to minimize disruption to recreation programs, and to allow for staff training.
