A daycare and town programs were briefly locked down in Marystown yesterday as police searched for a suspect reportedly armed with a knife.
RCMP were called to a home in the town shortly after 5 a.m. after receiving a report that a man had threatened his neighbour with a knife but took off on foot before police arrived.
That triggered concerns for an area daycare centre and town recreation programs that were getting going for the day, prompting the lockdowns.
The suspect was found and arrested a short time later in a wooded area behind the neighbour’s home, with the alleged weapon found inside.
Thirty-eight-year-old Curtis Foote was still in custody yesterday pending an appearance in Grand Bank provincial court.
He’s facing a long list of charges including assault with a weapon, uttering threats and failing to follow court orders.
Foote was already awaiting sentencing on a half dozen other charge including theft, resisting or obstructing police and breaching probation.
He’s due back in court on those charges August 13.
